About the Hackathon
Turning NYC Open Data into real-world civic solutions
This hackathon invites Baruch and/or CUNY students to design real world, industry aligned solutions using NYC Open Data and or Kaggle datasets. Participants will apply data analytics, AI, and automation techniques to explore challenges across both the public and private sectors, including transportation, finance, healthcare, housing, public safety, education, sustainability, retail, and technology.Students will work in teams to analyze real datasets, develop professional quality prototypes, and present solutions that demonstrate practical insight and business or policy relevance. Projects are expected to reflect realistic use cases that students can showcase on resumes, publish on GitHub, and potentially develop further for entrepreneurial or startup opportunities. This is a beginner to intermediate, learning focused hackathon. Fully polished or production ready applications are not required. Instead, teams are encouraged to focus on thoughtful problem selection, responsible data and AI use, clear methodology, and professional communication. Students from different majors including data analytics, computer science, information systems, business, finance, public affairs, and related fields are encouraged to participate.
