💡 About the ChallengeThis hackathon is open to18-40 year olds in Hampton Roads area.It’s a chance to practiceteam development, collaboration, and problem-solvingwhile creating projects that matter to our community.We believe all students deserve the opportunity to showcase their creativity and grow their skills.This event is designed to help participantsbuild their programming portfoliosand demonstrate innovation beyond the classroom.We’re challenging you totackle real problems in Hampton Roads.Your project should address asocial issueor helpbuild communityin the region.Themes may include environmental, educational or social challenges, equity, campus life, or other pressing issues you notice around Hampton Roads.We encourage you to do your research on the Hampton Roads area (Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Portsmouth, and Suffolk) as we will be judging the creativity of your project as well.Projects can be aweb app, prototype, or technology concept— what matters most is the potential impact your project can make.The goal: to empower Urban League students to turn ideas into solutions that serve Hampton Roads and strengthen our community.🚀 Getting StartedForm Your TeamTeams can be 2–5 people.All team membersmust have at least one active Urban League member. Joinhere.Trial memberships are available until February 2027.Identify a ProblemChoose asocial issue or community challengefrom your college campus or the wider Hampton Roads area.Examples include: environmental concerns, equity and inclusion, student life, or local community needs.Start CreatingDecide whether your solution will be aweb app, prototype, or technology concept.Focus on impact and creativity judgment will be on whether your idea can scale.Use the ResourcesThere will be a welcome meeting to introduce participants to a number of available tools for the hackathon.Check out any starter guides, coding tools, or community mentors available during the event.Ask questions early, collaborate often, and don’t be afraid to think outside the box.
