About the Hackathon
Build real energy-transition solutions in one day—AI, software, hardware, and energy-efficiency prototypes tackling real industry challenges.
ASU Energy Hackathon: Engineering the FutureThe ASU Energy Hackathon is aprototype-first, interdisciplinary hackathonfocused on building real solutions for the energy transition.Hosted by theAssociation of Energy Engineers (AEE) ASU Student ChapteratArizona State University, the event brings together students from engineering, computer science, business, policy, design, and related fields to solve practical challenges across energy, buildings, infrastructure, and climate technology.Event snapshotDate:April 18–19Location:ASU Tempe CampusHost:AEE ASU Student ChapterPartner Clubs:AI Society, IEEE, ASHRAE, DevHacksCore Tracks1) AI for EnergyBuild machine learning and analytics solutions for forecasting, optimization, anomaly detection, simulation, and grid intelligence. The current flagship challenge direction is aspatio-temporal foundational model for complex grid-related simulations and predictive analytics.2) Software for Energy - Problem StatementTBD3) Hardware for EnergyBuild practical energy hardware systems involving sensing, controls, embedded devices, battery diagnostics, solar-powered IoT, and physical energy interaction. This track is centered onworking prototypes with live sensing, control logic, and visible outputs. The Hardware for Energy track currently includes two especially strong anchor directions:Battery Lie Detector— test the true usable capacity and state of health of a lithium-ion cell.Energy Debt Tracker— build a solar-powered ESP32 node that tracks energy harvest vs. energy spend and adapts behavior across surplus, balanced, and deficit states.4) Energy Efficiency- Problem StatementTBD
