Claude Builders Club @ UC San Diego Hackathon

About the ChallengeThis hackathon will take place inThe Lodge @ Sixth College from 8 AM to 9 PMonSaturday May 9th, 2026. There will be free Claude merch, Claude API Credits, food, and film photography that will be developed after the event for all attendees.When people participate in a hackathon, they typically create a project according to a certain theme. These projects are great, but most of the time, they are not used by anyone after the event, and some of these projects are not very unique since ideas get recycled. Students also used to go to hackathons to learn how to code or gain experience with full stack development. However, with the increasing capabilities of LLMs, these hackathons are becoming more like an idea-thon since prototyping can be done with the push of a button.The goal for this hackathon is to decenter having the cleanest code or even the best idea, and to instead get students to think about how what they are building is fitting into the technological landscape of today’s day and age. To do this, we will implement a 1-2 page write up in addition to the final project, where students must think about the ethical concerns of their project throughout the data lifecycle and implement or discuss system designs that reflect that.
